Greyhound Welfare / Industry Revitalisation Action Plan

In February 2024 the third NSW Greyhound Industry Leaders Summit was held in Sydney, bringing together experts and key stakeholders from NSW, other Australian jurisdictions and New Zealand.

This Summit built on the progress made at last year’s Race Injury Reduction and Rehoming and Prohibited Substances Summits, with a review of key strategies already being implemented.

Data highlighting the success of race injury reduction strategies, including trials of double-armed lures and preferred box draws was discussed. One of the key outcomes from the February summit was that an additional race injury reduction pilot will commence trialing an innovative soft sand profile as a new track base.

Rehoming, the greyhound superannuation scheme, and a prohibited substances app that is in development were also discussed, as were strategies aimed to increase the greyhound utilisation rate and prolong the racing careers.
